What is the catch? Why is this free?
There is no financial catch because we are not a service provider. We do not sell editing, cover design, or marketing packages.
The "cost" of entry is quality. We operate on the Network Effect: A lone indie author looks small. Ten high-quality indie authors grouped under one banner look like a powerhouse. By elevating your appearance, we elevate our own. We profit in reputation, not currency.
Does Mythcode Press own my book?
Absolutely not. You retain 100% of your copyright, 100% of your royalties, and 100% of your creative control.
Technically speaking, you are granting us a non-exclusive, revocable license to list your name on our website. Conversely, we grant you a non-exclusive license to use our logo on your cover. This agreement can be terminated by either party at any time.
Is this a "Vanity Press"?
No. A vanity press charges authors money to publish books regardless of quality.
Mythcode Press charges nothing and rejects submissions that do not meet our quality or tonal standards. Inclusion in the roster is earned, not bought.
How does the ISBN / Publisher field work?
When you set up your book on KDP, IngramSpark, or Draft2Digital, you will use your own ISBN (or a free one provided by the platform).
In the "Imprint" or "Publisher Name" field, you simply type Mythcode Press. This ensures that on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other retailers, the book appears to be published by the house, rather than "Independently Published."
What if I get a traditional deal or want to leave?
We celebrate that. If you outgrow the roster or simply wish to change direction, you simply notify us. We will remove your profile from the site. You would then remove the Mythcode logo from your future print runs. There are no exit fees and no lock-in periods.
